It's here! It's here! Some things are worth waiting for...

In June, I posted about three of my fave SA musicians who were all due to release albums. Seems the production, mastering and marketing all takes longer than expected - as does everything in life! But with time comes quality, and also, with a debut album - ones first offering to international ears - care is also a huge consideration, the first professional product released into the world's ocean of sound!

I'm thrilled to say that my advanced copy of Dave Owens, now David Beretta Owens, has arrived and is on high rotation on this very laptop! The album, The Order of Things, is due for digital release in Feb 2011 - but I am thrilled to report that Dave's voice is as delightful as before and it seems some things are worth waiting for...!

To have a listen to one of Dave's tracks - go to the David Beretta Owens website - and at the bottom right you can click on the play button to listen to Fix It (you might need to to adjust the sound to hear it)! I just love this track cos its so different from the Lithium days and it is ideal for an upbeat singer songwriter style summer song - it leans towards an era past with the playfulness of Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly! Also on this album are a few gorgeous love songs, including one beautiful song, Hardcore Love, especially written and performed for the first time earlier this year at the wedding of fellow SA muso Hanu of The Narrow.

Let Fix It tickle your earbuds - and know that many more genre surprises and vocal variations are in store on this acoustic solo debut from Lithium's frontman. Like others before - Arno Carstens (Springbok Nude Girls), Paul E. Flynn (Sugardrive) and James Stewart (The Usual) - its about time Dave brought his vocal talents back to the people!

And for those who used to listen to Dave many moons ago at a certain Cape Town Spur on Tuesday nights, there is one of his original solo tracks on this album - Slipstream! For those who know this song, he sings the line 'I don't mind waiting, some things are worth waiting for..." Well said Dave, we've waited a long time for this - and its pure magic!

What a treat to hear Dave's rich voice of grounded depth after all these years!

Rock on David Beretta Owens,
x

ps. The other two albums I'm still waiting on are the full Jack Mantis Band debut as well as the Shen Winberg debut - both of these, along with David Beretta Owens, have been promised for release in Feb 2011!
