Gig Giveback: Rocking the Daisies 2007

Here's an insight into the festivals that went down last weekend in South Africa...

Rocking the Daisies, now in its second year, as experienced by Gill Stramrood:
RTD was awesome! I was so starved for a decent rock festival! I honestly wasn't too impressed with the line-up, but there were still some good tunes to jive out to :)

Rory Eliot & the Reason opened up the festival in the pouring rain and did so fantastically well to get the crowds out from under the shelter of the beer tent and onto the open-air dance floor! You can imagine the enormity of that task! Love Jones were brilliant, this was the first time I was seeing them LIVE and they didn't disappoint.

Taxi Violence (pictured in the howling wind. Photo: Gill Stramrood) were my favourite, I saw them the weekend before at the Hermanus Whale Festival as well and became an instant fan.
They have an awesome rocker style and almost an international sound without being clichéd.

Goldfish rocked as ever and so did Bed on Bricks! Alas, the MCs and comedians were poor... To be honest, I wasn't that into the music this time cos it's all bands I've seen or didn't really care to see... and I wish the Parlotones where there! 7th Son deserve a mention for their chilled and appropriate vibes on the Sunday when we were all winding down to go home.

The venue (Cloof Wine Estate in darling) was amazing. Seriously, the best venue possible! A painless 60 minutes from Cape Town and you are there! There is a huge, clean dam right by the stage and beer tent, and a big chill-out tent with massive cushions and low tables. Flawlessly organised and orchestrated, the cleaning staff were constantly rotating through the camp sites and picking up after people. The toilets were cleaned and emptied everyday and there were showers. However, the food stalls were disappointing and expensive. If they weren't expensive then they were shit! I only ate one meal the whole weekend and it was a little tub of noodles! The weather sucked! Raining on Friday night and a HOWLING gale ALL of Saturday. Our tent even blew away, but it didn't stop the some 2,000 people from having a good time! There are rumours of a repeat festival in February, you'll see me there!

Hopefully more on Aardklop to follow if I can track down my insider to give us some feedback...

If you attended one of these and have something to say send your coments and thoughts through!

Rock on,
x
