Where for art thou dear Lize...

Starting her solo career in 1997, she has released five solo albums as well as a lullaby CD and a DVD. And she will be returning to London following a sold out show in 2008 at her first ever overseas performance!

She is of course Lize Beekman, the blue eyed, blonde curly haired Afrikaans singer songwriter, who will be live at Aardvark in London on 2 & 3 June.

As today is SAMA Saturday, the 17th annual South African Music Awards, we asked Lize a bit about her SAMA history, the SA artists who she listens to, what inspires her songs and what we can expect for the rest of the year!

Q1. How many times has your work been nominated for a SAMA?
All my solo albums, with the exception of one, were nominated for a SAMA.The lullaby CD was also nominated and the DVD is nominated for this year's SAMAs! So that is a total of six!

Q2. How many SAMAs have you won?
I won a SAMA together with Amanda Strydom for the soundtrack 'n Vuur gevang in a glas.

Q3. Who are your favourite SA artists?
Though I'm not necessarily fond of all their music, there are several artists that I respect. Artists like Karen Zoid, Freshlyground, Nataniel, David Kramer, Laurika Rauch and Amanda Strydom to name a few.

Q4. What inspires your songs?
Life inspires my songs, for life is full of love, people and stories.

Q5. What is on the cards for the rest of 2011?
There's a lot more to be done in 2011. I'm working on a new solo album and hope to release it later this year. I also hope to release another Lize Beekman lullabies CD in aid of the Red Cross Children's Hospital. I'm also working on two other projects, but that will have to remain a secret for now and a surprise for later!

Rock on return visits to London for SA artists,
x
