Sink or swim?

So, what's been happening with SA music in the month since I last wrote? You need only look at the recent SA artists in UK to see the abundance of musicians who have entertained our ears…

In May there was the exciting Sunday night church-substitute at the Astoria! A CD launch of Nude Girls new album Peace Breaker and fellow Stellenbosch band from back in the day, Dorp, were supporting! (Photo: Shelton Lawrence)

Local Londoners of the last 7 years, Dorp shone on stage and stole the night! With their newly suped-up image and crazy circus photo shoot recently, these boys are def playing in the big ring!

Parlotones played at Punk, launching their single 'Beautiful' in the UK, followed with an album launch gig at Metro. Loads of Afrikaans artists have been shipped in to the Aardvark... Koos Kombuis, Theuns Jordaan, Chris Chameleon and Anton Goosen, with Valiant Swart and Ollie Viljoen on this weekend!

Its all happening! Every night of the week, the bands continue to play... Between new houses, house parties, birthday get togethers, friends visiting from SA and a new flatmate in the form of an old friend, London can be an exhausting place without all the added gigging and routine goings on...

And inbetween all this, I have been contemplating getting a cat. An indoor cat it would have to be (is that cruel?) Cats are incredile providers of comfort, companionship, silent support and sanity as if by osmosis! But then when would I get time to spend with it in my already over-subscribed schedule?

In a crazy city like London, where Dorp capture the frenzied feeling of London's frantic pace in their hit single 'London Out There', it is music which is the ultimate sanity!!

Watch This Space: Reviews of Wickhead's latest EP underway as well as a review of an older album of London-based Free State Prophets, and also working on a cool feature story about hugely talented fingerstyle guitarist from Durban, soon to tour the UK - Guy Buttery!

Rock On!
