Counting...

Counting crows... counting down... counting the days til the Counting Crows hit Hyde Park...

Having recently read the MIO review on the Counting Crows concert in Durban, SA - I was again reminded of why I am so looking forward to seeing them! As MIO editor Richard Rumney so simply and expertly summed up:

"There are some bands that capture the memories of a certain period in your life. The merest sound from bands such as these unleashes a torrent of technicolor nostalgia. The Counting Crows are one of these bands for me, which is one reason this was my fifth trip to see them live. Of course the other reason would be the outstanding performance they deliver every time."

And South African band Flat Stanley had the great honour of being up there and playing with them! Well done to Flat Stanley - a recent SAMA nominated band - and one hopefully coming to the UK soon. Come on Mac, it's our turn next...!

But now its our turn for Counting Crows indeed - with only 19 more sleeps til the 02 wireless festival in Hyde Park on Sunday 6 July - along with Goo Goo Dolls, Ben Harper and Donavan Frankenreiter! Wahooo!

The first week of July is certainly going to be a busy one - just look at the gig blog to see all the SA stuff on offer. And that's not taking into account the Jack Johnson gig also on 2 July.

I would actually love to see Parlotones again as it has been a while since last I enjoyed a live set of Parlos. Plus I have now bought the second album and so I know all the new songs as well! (And there is a fab support act lined up - another SA band called Neon Choir... def worth a listen on MySpace!)

But, some times choice is our biggest enemy and alas, we can't do everything in this world! It does make you wonder whether ignorance is sometimes bliss in terms of not knowing about something until after its happened? Or to be in the agony of always over-booking your life, trying to do everything, experience everything and see and hear all bands out there.

Just not possible.

(Alas, I cant make Freshlyground or Alanis Morissette this Thurs! Aaarghh!)

But thanks to some online sites and print publications - we can keep up to date with what's going on even when we didnt get to go ourselves...

Check out this week's South African Live Music SA pages for an interview with Music Industry Online (MIO)'s editor Richard Rumney about all the content and contacts they bring to the SA Music Industry!

And also keep an eye open for the upcoming Living it Live July Museletter - due for distribution at the end of June!

Oh, and then on a completley diff note - I see a new bar called Baraza is open in Earlsfield (or maybe I've just heard about it) - but it is advertising Justin Bergh playing on Thurs nights. Hmmmm... now thats a name that dropped off the radar for a while. He used to play a regular slot on Fulham Road. Well, its good to have you back Mr Bergh.

Rock on busy bees all around,
x
